MaximaTelecom Equips New MCD Trains with Wi-Fi and Online Television.

MaximaTelecom will install 430 free Wi-Fi  hotspots on Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) trains. In addition, 1200 screens with online television broadcasting will be installed in the cars.

“In Moscow the largest united Wi-Fi network on public transport in Europe was created. High-speed free internet has been available to passengers of the underground and surface public transport for a long time already. With the launch of the Moscow Central Diameters Wi-Fi also became an essential detail of public transport infrastructure. Currently, almost 250 free Wi-Fi hotspots have been installed in 39 Ivolga trains on MCD-1 and MCD-2”, – said Andrey Akimov, Head MCD Directorate  of the Department of Transport of Moscow.

“All digital utilities for MCD trains are being installed in cars already at the assembly stage on the conveyor. This is the first time in Russia when trains are being equipped with Wi-Fi equipment and screens at the assembly stage. Installation of digital utilities at the assembly stage is the main point of digitalization of Russian transport, we will continue doing this in 2020”, – said Ilya Cherkasov, infrastructure businessdirector of MaximaTelecom.

Since the day the Moscow Central Diameters were launched, the train passengers there have connected to free Wi-Fi 702 000 times. The number of connections to the MT_FREE network in trains on MCD has increased 2.8 times in two months.

During two months of the Diameters’ work, Wi-Fi hotspots in trains were more often used by men aged from 25 to 34 years. Moreover, Android devices users (68%) connected to the hotspots twice as more than iOS users did (32%)
