MaximaTelecom Closed Encrypted Wi-Fi Network Introduced in Moscow Metro
03 September 2019MaximaTelecom launched a closed MT network in the Moscow Metro. The network remains free for users and is paid for through ads.
MT is deployed in the Moscow Metro using Hotspot 2.0 technology with automatic protection from connecting to phishing points.
“We understand users’ demand for safe connection to public networks. With the Hotspot 2.0 technology stack rolled out, the Wi-Fi offered in the Moscow Metro will become Europe’s largest secure public network,” said Boris Volpe, CEO of MaximaTelecom.
Users will see two SSIDs when they connect to Wi-Fi in the metro: MT and MT_FREE. To connect to the MT network a user must set up a MaximaTelecom trusted profile on their device. For now, the network is available to iOS device owners only, but soon Android device owners will be able to set up a profile via the MT_FREE app.
Access to the Internet is made after viewing advertisements, as well as in MT_FREE. No advertisements need to be watched by “Kak doma” (“Like Home”) service users.
The open Hotspot 2.0 technology test will last three months with the installation of the profile via a landing page.
